Do Not Be Afraid!

I’m so scared!

What frightens you?  Are your fears irrational or reasonable? In the Bible all fear, rational or imaginative, garners the the same response: “Do not be afraid.”

Do not be afraid of failing to provide for your family. Do not be afraid when you cannot see a way out, when you are outnumbered or when something unexpectedly awful happens. Do not be afraid of criticism when you make a decision, when you face an insurmountable task or are fighting for what is right. Do not be afraid of what you hear on the news.

How can we beat our fears? Moses said, “Remember what God has done.”

I remember that God healed me, twice. Also, he provided everyone and everything needed to publish Bible Orientation. What has he done for you?

We conquer our fears by acknowledging that God is the solution. We can trust him, our all-powerful, sovereign Lord. What does God do? Here are some promises along with my personal experience.

 “God goes before you.”

I was talking with an acquaintance about my need for an editor. I suddenly realized that she was the perfect person for the job. I mused, “Too bad you already have a job.” She responded, “I’m taking a sabbatical and have time to edit for you.” When did God go before you?

“God will be with you.”

Writing Bible Orientation was challenging; I am not a biblical scholar. And yet, Bible Orientation is far better than it should be given that I wrote it. The Holy Spirit directed me. How have you experienced God’s presence?

“God will fight for you.”

The tendered price for printing was impossibly high. I presented my best offer, less than 2/3 of the initial tender. I was shocked when my counter was accepted without a quibble. When has God fought for you?

Even better, “the battle is not yours, but God’s.”

My publisher decided that Bible Orientation was no longer viable after Volume 2. I looked around but saw no path, so I stood aside to wait. Two months later I was connected with a secular firm that produced Volumes 3 and 4. I did nothing. Has God handed you a victory?

Let’s keep our eyes on our God. He has our best interest at heart, always. That is why I quote the psalmist along with Hebrews: “The Lord is my helper; I will not be afraid.” Will you say it with me?
